Gary Shapiro OBM was a pillar of the Jewish community. He was a wise and respected Rabbi and Cantor, as well as a uniquely brilliant singer, songwriter, comedian, and performer. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend of Israel.

 

Most of all, Gary was a one-of-a-kind teacher whose lessons in spirituality were infused with humor and song. He inspired thousands of students to develop a deeper love of Judaism, the Torah, and the state of Israel. Perhaps no greater testament to the influence of Gary’s teachings are the many students who have gone on to become Rabbis and Cantors in their own right.

 

Gary loved this program, so it is beshert that through the Gary Shapiro Israel Speaker Series, his legacy of teaching will continue to inspire youth and the Jewish people—creating an indelible mark on generations to come.
